Application for The Gallery at L.E. Shore’s 2027 Exhibit Schedule is now open! On this page, you will learn more about the Blue Mountains Public Library’s Gallery and how to apply to exhibit in 2027.
Deadline to apply: August 31, 2026
How to Apply
To apply, please complete the following:
On this page, you will learn more about The Gallery’s:
- Arts & Culture Council
- Annual exhibition schedule and how it is organized.
- Priorities for selecting artists to exhibit (including eligibility requirements).
- Exhibition sales, fees and commissions policy.
- Artwork insurance policy.
The following guidelines outline the qualities and characteristics The Gallery’s Arts & Culture Councill seeks in a strong application:
- A Cohesive Body of Work
Individual artists are encouraged to submit a cohesive body of work that reflects a clear artistic voice. This often means focusing on a consistent medium, style and genre. A focused application helps communicate a clear artistic voice (your style and the overall theme/message of your work).
Submissions, however, may also include multiple mediums, styles, or genres if there is clear intentionality and a unifying theme:
Example:
An artist submits both oil landscape paintings and sculptures that explore the life cycle of trees. While the mediums differ, the work is conceptually connected and forms a cohesive exhibition. - Suitability for the Space
Given the shared and active nature of The Gallery, artwork must be suitable for display in a high-traffic, multi-purpose environment and must not interfere with programming or public use. - Special Considerations for Group Applicants
A common challenge in group submissions is a lack of cohesion, especially when a group is composed of artists with different styles, mediums and/or subjects. Artists applying as a group should demonstrate a clear, shared vision, and present a cohesive exhibition that clearly communicates a unifying theme.
Example
Three artists submit a group application featuring different mediums (photography, sculpture, and painting) but all work within an abstract style. Despite the variation in medium, the shared visual language creates a cohesive exhibition.
Common Challenges of Unsuccessful Applications
- A wide range of unrelated styles, mediums, or genres without clear intent.
- An unclear artistic voice or lack of a unifying theme.
- Work that has been previously submitted or exhibited at The Gallery at L.E. Shore.
- Insufficient detail about the proposed exhibition, including how the work can be installed (for example, can work be displayed on the Gallery walls or are other display methods required?)
- A Cohesive Body of Work
- Consider completing the application on a computer. While the form can be completed on a phone or tablet, this is not recommended.
- As you work your way through the application form, record your answers in a separate document (for example, in an email, in a Word document etc.) in case of any technical glitches.
- Please note that you cannot close the form and return to it later to complete and submit. Your progress will NOT be saved and you will need to restart the application.
Choose the type of exhibit you would like to apply for. The Gallery hosts three types of exhibits:
- Solo Exhibit: an exhibit featuring a single artist. To apply, please submit the Solo Exhibit Application.
Solo Exhibit Application [link] - Partial Gallery Exhibit: this is a popular choice for artists who do not have enough work to support a solo exhibit. With this application, you will be paired with other artists. To apply, please submit the Partial Exhibit Application.
Partial Exhibit Application [link] - Group Exhibit: these have been popular with painting clubs, studios, or friends coming together with a themed show and applying. To apply, choose a "Group Lead" from your group and have them submit the Group Lead Application.
