Library Visits & Pop-ups

Early Literacy Storytime focuses on building essential literacy skills in pre-readers. Storytime focuses on building essential literacy skills through stories, imaginative play, songs, rhymes, puppets and felt stories. This accessible and inclusive storytime is literacy based, professional developed, and needs-appropriate for all individuals including children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Speech Learning Pathology, ADHD, and other developmental disabilities.

The Mother Goose Project focuses on delivering literacy based, professionally developed, and needs-appropriate storytimes to children in childcare centres and shelters. This project aims to reach children and families in high needs neighbourhoods who may not have the opportunity to attend and benefit from library programs. Mother Goose Project helps to set a strong foundation for childhood development and essential lifelong learning and literacy skills.

ECE professionals whose daycares host Mother Goose Project can arrange for Professional Development workshops with the Outreach Department such as, Storytime Basics, Accessible Storytimes with Felt Stories, Emotional Intelligence Building with Puppets, and Storytimes for Sensory Development, and more.

The Research Skills series for readers helps school-aged kids to teens learn how to find credible resources for their school projects, and builds upon this learning to help prepare teens for research skills required for post-secondary levels. We can also customize the Research Skills series based on the topics covered in class, and the research level of the students.

Topics are:

• Research Skills 101 (Grade 2-5)
• Breaking Fake News (Grade 4+)
• Avoiding Plagiarism in an AI World (Grade 9+)
• Post-Secondary Ready Research Skills (Grade 9+)

Learn the excitement of visual storytelling when you design your own stop motion movie. Participants will learn the art of storyboarding, and set design, and film & direct their own stop motion movie. This creative, and interactive workshop will end with a short film-fest!

Skycrapers, Bridges, Towers, Arches and more! Learn how structures are built and designed in team-oriented construction challenges. Challenges can increase in intensity and complexity as participants learn the importance of architecture, design, and engineering. Teamwork skills, leadership skills, and communications skills are also built in this workshop.

These workshops will be electrically fun! Learn about the power of circuits by exploring our Makey Makey, or through fun circuit creations. You can build a robot, light a night sky, or learn about morse code and more. Skills learned in these workshops can also be included to illuminate your science fair projects!

Coding is interactive and fun now. Explore Ozobots and more items from our Library of Things as we discover coding and all the ways coding helps us. Workshops can be designed for the beginner coder, or even to the more intermediate by exploring RaspberryPi.

Arrange to have your youth group take over the library during our exciting after hours event. Get the run of L.E. Shore as you play indoor tag, puzzles and games, and the chance to explore the library with just your youth group. We'll happily coordinate activities with you to make sure your youth group has a great time!

Using items found in the Craigleith Heritage Depot museum and archives, participants will have a moment to explore the artifact and then share insights and stories that relate to it. This social sharing circle will help build social connections helps with cognition.

We provide GLAM services, programs and resources at various parks throughout The Blue Mountains from Ravenna, to Clarksburg, to Craigleith, to Thornbury. Join us to borrow books, participate in a fun craft or activity, join a conversation circle, or just enjoy reading books with others in the park. Bring your family and your friends with you!
