About the Show

Holly and Delia have spent most of their lives in the Great Lake region of Ontario and feel that the Niagara Escarpment and our freshwater lakes to be large and generous characters, rewarding us just by being themselves. These two artists strive to honour the beauty of their home’s lakes, rocks and trees through drawing and painting.

While no work can fully convey nature’s wonder, the paintings created can be brought indoors to brighten our spaces when we are unable to experience their true form outdoors.

Deila Eastwood

Delia Eastwood is a Grey Highlands-based artist. Her practice began with, and has always included, drawing. She started painting as a student at McMaster University, and after graduating with a BA, she moved to Grey Highlands where she continued to paint and draw.

Delia has pursued a variety of artistic subject matter throughout her career, including portrait, still life, and landscape. Using pencil, pen, acrylics, paper, canvas, board, and (sometimes!) Tyvek, she finds inspiration everywhere, from church renaissance paintings to representations of her own life. Most of Delia’s recent work is nature based.

Delia’s sketches are the backbone of her art practice. Drawing quiets the mind, allowing one to appreciate one’s surroundings, and they are then used as foundations for paintings.

The drawing and colorful components of Delia’s paintings come from two distinct directions. Believing in art as something contemplative (as is the process of drawing), while also loving art as something colourful, captivating and decorative. The results are detailed and abstracted landscapes, which you might not recognize – at first – as landscapes.

As an artist working alone, Delia is always eager to exhibit her work and hear the viewer’s response. These interactions help her grow in skill and vision.

Holly Kee

"Over the past five years, my journey as a landscape artist has been an exploration of both technique and personal expression, all through the medium of oil paint.  I began this path with a deep fascination for the natural world and an aspiration to capture its fleeting beauty.  Initially, my work focused on basic landscapes, learning the fundamentals of light , shadow and perspective.  The slow-drying nature of oils offered me the freedom to build layers, allowing for rich textures and subtle colour transitions that helped me refine my understanding of depth.

As time progressed, I found myself drawn to capturing the mood of the environment - how light shifts through trees as the day progresses or how storm clouds gather and build over the water.  I began experimenting with different techniques, from realism to impressionistic, misty trees to stippling works, paint brush to palette knife, all to evoke atmosphere and emotion in my work.  Nature became my constant teacher, with each painting serving as both a reflection of the moment and an exploration of my own evolving style.

The past five years have been a process of self-discovery, learning patience, and gaining confidence in my artistic voice.  Through oils, I have developed a deeper connection to the landscapes I paint, not just as an observer but as a participant in the ever-changing cycle of nature.  I owe a great deal of gratitude to my mentor, John Wallace Burton, an amazing landscape artist and friend. Looking forward, I am excited to continue growing and pushing the boundaries of my work."
