Chasing the Stars: Light Pollution & What We Can Do

Have you ever looked up at the night sky and wondered where all the stars have gone? Light pollution is growing every year, affecting our night skies, wildlife, and even our daily lives.Join local astronomer Chris Vaughan—the Geo Astro Guy and a Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC) member—for a fun, all-ages talk about light pollution and how smarter lighting can help protect the night while keeping us safe. Learn simple things you can do at home and in your community to make a difference.Weather permitting, we’ll head outdoors to view Jupiter and the Orion Nebula through a telescope, so dress warmly.In-person program. Lead Like Her: Mary Hindle, Firefighter

To celebrate International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month, the Blue Mountains Public Library, Marsh Street Centre, and TBM Chamber of Commerce are proud to present Lead Like Her, a new 4-part speaker series featuring women working in male-dominated fields.

Our first speaker is Mary Hindle, a firefighter, who will talk about her career, her path into the profession, and what it’s really like working on the front lines in emergency services. Mary will share stories from the job, talk about leadership in high-pressure environments, and answer questions from the audience. 

This series will continue throughout March 2026, with events alternating between the L.E. Shore Library and Marsh Street Centre.

All are welcome.

Who Dunnit? A March Break Mystery

Put on your detective hats—and maybe your aprons! This March Break, teams of three will not only crack clues and solve puzzles but also follow “recipe-style” hints to uncover secrets and solve a mysterious case. Think teamwork, problem-solving, and lots of “aha!” moments as you mix together logic, observation, and a dash of creativity to figure out who dunnit.

Hosted in partnership with the Blue Mountains Chamber of Commerce, this conversation will explore career paths, challenges, leadership, and what it’s like to build and lead in fields where women are still underrepresented. There will be time for audience questions.

Robert Burcher Presents: My Summer of Glorious Freedom

April 21st marks the birthday of John Muir, renowned naturalist, writer, and environmentalist whose passion for the natural world helped inspire the modern conservation movement.

Join us at the L.E. Shore Library as local author Robert Burcher discusses his book My Summer of Glorious Freedom, which explores John Muir’s time in our neighbouring community of Meaford, set in the beautiful Trout Hollow. Robert will share his research into Muir’s route to Meaford, his environmental legacy, and his recent experience guiding a camera crew through Trout Hollow to the old mill site and cabin—why they were there and what this connection may lead to next.  A meaningful way to celebrate Mother Earth by honouring the life and legacy of John Muir. Registration is required for this event.

Celebrate Mother’s Day with a fun, hands-on art workshop led by local maker Tara Parkal of Back to the Yarn. Using a collection of beautiful odds and ends—like glass, rocks, and shells—participants will create a one-of-a-kind piece to give as a gift or keep as a special keepsake.

This intergenerational workshop is perfect to attend with your mom, grandma, or a favourite person. Ages 12+ (hot glue guns will be used). No experience needed—just bring your imagination and enjoy creating together.
