Our Project

We're working with the Town of The Blue Mountains (TBM) to develop an online interactive map to make historical information more accessible. This map will showcase our community's unique cultural, natural, and historical treasures, both past and present.

Why Create a Cultural Map?

Collecting stories can be done in many different ways. We have found that cultural mapping is a tool that has demonstrated success in building community and preserving history. Cultural maps are used to provide residents with an opportunity to engage in open discussions and share their stories. They also allow residents to self-identify and digitally map and document the people, places, and resources that define their community identity.

Our Goals

Document Cultural Assets: Create a comprehensive record of the cultural, natural, and intangible features that define the TBM, encompassing its historical significance and contemporary vibrancy.

Empower Resident Voices: Get loud and empower residents to self-identify and document the people, places, and resources that shape their community's unique identity.

Bridge Communities: Foster connections between diverse communities within the TBM.

Promote Sustainable Tourism: Identify, share, and protect cultural districts within the TBM.
