En Plein Air, September 2023

En Plein Air ran September 2-27 and featured the students and instructors of The Blue Mountain School of Landscape Painting. Enjoy of a sample of the show below!

The Blue Mountain School of Landscape Painting (BMSLP) was established in 1980 with the goals, “To encourage and foster awareness, interest and talent in the art of landscape painting in the Blue Mountain area” and “To establish and conduct a reputable art school with a high standard of instruction”.

For many years, the school focused on watercolour painting and all classes were plein air (outdoors). Over time, the school gained provincial wide recognition as students ventured here for excellent instruction and an overall good time in our outdoors.

What started as a way to provide teachers for a group of keen local artists, turned into a well-respected art school that has provided thousands of students the opportunity to explore, learn and paint amidst the beautiful landscape of South Georgian Bay.

The School is non-profit and is organized and run by a Board of Directors who are all volunteers. In the early days, a dinner was held to welcome students, later changing to a reception at the home of one of the board members, which continues to this day. The School has always encouraged participant feedback and courses have changed to meet those wishes, adding oil painting, acrylics, drawing classes and also some indoor workshops.

2023 is the 41st season of the BMSLP’s spring painting workshops in the Blue Mountains. This is a rare opportunity where local property owners allow students to enjoy and paint beautiful, often historic sites. In this exhibit, past and present students are invited to share their work painted on those sites. We are excited for the opportunity to show the wonderful work of our students in a variety of mediums.  We are also thrilled that our newer students can experience and learn from showing work for the first time. We all look forward to gathering together to celebrate the work!
