ACC Presents: Juggling the Notes - A Musical Event

Join Will Henry for a musical evening centered around his book about fiddle culture, Juggling the Notes!

Juggling the Notes introduces readers to traditional fiddle music and dance culture - locally in the Grey/Bruce area and as far away as Manitoba, Ireland and Cuba. It includes more than 80 of Henry’s original fiddle tunes, almost 150 black and white and colour photographs and many stories about the people and places that inspired the music.

The evening will be filled with live traditional dance tunes and compositions from his book (accompanied by Henry’s wife, Lynda Henry – concertina player -, and their long-time musical partner, Dan McGee – Irish flute and clawhammer banjo player) and a fascinating overview of fiddle culture. Henry has followed this movement for the last 40 years and will share insights about fiddle culture and how it has changed over the decades.

Henry is known in the Grey-Bruce area for both his fiddling with the contra dance band, Scatter the Cats, and for his 25 years as a journalist with the Owen Sound Sun Times newspaper. After many years of exploring and documenting fiddle culture, as well as creating his own original tunes within the tradition, he combined his interests of fiddling, writing and photography to produce Juggling the Notes. There’s more about the new book, with some sample pages and tunes, at the band website scatterthecats.com.
