Curious about American Mah Jongg? Join us for a casual community mixer to learn the basics, meet other players, and try your hand at the game.
This introductory session is designed to be welcoming to beginners and experienced players alike. We’ll start with a brief introduction to American Mah Jongg, including the tiles, racks, NMJL card and basic objective of the game, followed by a demonstration of how a game works—from the Charleston and drawing and discarding to building a hand.
Then it’s your turn! Beginners will have a chance to sit at tables with an experienced player and try a simplified, open-hand version of the game with guidance and support.
The goal is to bring local players together, introduce newcomers to the game, and gauge interest in forming an ongoing Mah Jongg group at the library.
No experience necessary. Everyone is welcome! Registration encouraged, drop-ins welcome.
