Action Planning

  • The 2023 Action Plan had a completion rate of 95%. The outstanding items were deferred to 2024.
  • The Board reviewed its meeting plan for 2024. Some meetings will be convened as Committee of the Whole to facilitate planning discussions on items such as the 2024 Action Plan, Board and CEO evaluation processes, metrics, and BMPL’s social return on investment.
  • The Valuing Ontario Libraries Toolkit was recently released, and work has begun to generate the social return on investment (SROI) report for BMPL.

Organizational Excellence

  • Workplace Excellence: The Board reviewed several documents at the January meeting, including Respectful Workplaces Compliance, Continuous Improvement, and Risk Assessment.
  • Board Appointments & Strong Governance: A committee was appointed to assist Council in making its selection to fill the vacancy on the Board. The committee will review the applications, conduct interviews, and prepare a report for Council.

Community Hubs

  • On November 30, the Library Board was pleased to meet with Council at a Joint Meeting to present a report on needs assessment and usage of BMPL, to demonstrate the need for expansion in the near future.

Empowering Services

  • BMPL Welcomed New CEO Murley: The Board hosted a welcome reception on December 7 at L.E. Shore for the new CEO, Jennifer Murley. If you have not had an opportunity to meet her yet, you are invited to stop in at the Craigleith Depot on Friday, February 9 from 1-4 pm and Monday, February 12 from 10am-1 pm at L.E. Shore.
