Happy New Year! Check out all the arts and cultural events The Gallery has planned for the first month of 2024.
Exhibit Reception: Where We Live
Saturday, January 6 | 2-4pm | Drop In
Artists Karen Bowen, Wanda Haayen, and Judy Scopes are pleased to share a collection of their artwork in a tri-artist exhibit, Where We Live.
These established artists paint places that are special to them – Canadian scenes from coast to coast which evoke the beauty and drama of our countryside and shorelines. All three spend time exploring Grey/Bruce and Simcoe Counties, honouring old barns, heritage towns, hillside farms, and the waters of Georgian Bay and its headwater rivers. In a range of styles from realism to impressionism, Judy, Karen, and Wanda paint in oils or acrylics to capture the light and ambience of “where they live”.
Meet the artists at their open reception this Saturday, January 6! Drop in between 2-4pm at The Gallery to enjoy the open bar, refreshments, and gorgeous art.
Scottish Sojourn: Three Months on the Island of Iona
Tuesday, January 23 | 7pm | Free - Registration Required
Join Ken Haigh for a Scottish adventure on the island of Iona! Ken volunteered for three months at the restored medieval abbey on Iona, which is now an ecumenical Christian retreat centre. The Iona Community hosts visitors from around the world who wish to experience life in the community and to work together for social and environmental justice and world peace.
Ken worked as the Chief Librarian at both the Blue Mountains and Collingwood Public Libraries before retiring in 2021. He has also worked as a teacher in Bhutan, China, Sikkim, and the Canadian Arctic. Ken is the author of two books: Under the Holy Lake, which documents his two years in Bhutan, and On Foot to Canterbury, which was a finalist for the Hilary Weston Writers’ Trust Prize for Non-Fiction and the Alberta Book Publishing Award for Non-Fiction.
Calling Artists – Join the February Colour Show
Annually, The Gallery hosts a colour-themed Salon Show in February. Artists are invited to submit their work and the space is filled, floor to ceiling and everywhere in between, with art! This year, we are celebrating the vibrant colour of turquoise.
No professional experience is required to participate in this exhibition. The show show highlights the diverse talent within our community and provides all artists the opportunity to showcase their creations. Applications can be accessed online or in person at the Gallery at L.E. Shore. The deadline to apply is February 1 at 7pm.
