ACC Presents: Sailing in the Drake Channel & Antarctica

-

On Thursday, September 14 at 7pm, be transported across the world!

Mary Lou Gignac will recount the Challenges and Joys of sailing a 60-foot sailboat across the Drake Channel and along the Antarctic Peninsula. Many things were more difficult as a solo “older woman”. But then, so many things were better with the wisdom and perspective of being that woman. The beauty and experiences of this journey were beyond belief!

Mary Lou’s personal path was from a small town in Ontario, to University, followed by city life for career - first aquatics, then vocational counselling and policy and administration with the provincial health ministry.  In her last 25 years of work, she held leadership roles in health professions regulation and with non-health professions regulatory bodies.  Mary Lou has always been oriented to water – growing up on the Georgian Bay in Penetanguishene and returning to it in retirement here in Southern Georgian Bay area.  She has enjoyed some sailing years, and for the past 12 years, has been an avid kayaker and wilderness camper.
