ACC Presents: Sakakke - Power & Prestige of African Textiles (with Barbara McCann)

-

Join Barbara McCann as she presents a fascinating visual show of African textiles! For over five decades, she has researched, travelled and collected textiles from around the world. The talk will focus on the collecting of the African pieces, which she sourced from many remote villages and towns across North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa. Barbara will also explore the production, economic, historical and cultural importance of textiles.

This collection has been a lifelong passion and has been shown to a wide range of audiences in universities, public museums and art galleries throughout Canada and the USA, beginning with the first show at the UN Plaza in 1975.
