BMPL Appoints Jennifer Murley CEO

The Blue Mountains Public Library is delighted to announce the appointment of Jennifer Murley as our new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective December 4.

Jennifer is an information professional with over ten years of progressive experience in public libraries. She has a Bachelor of Arts in History from Carleton and a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Alberta as well as project management certification from the University of Toronto.

She comes to us directly from Grey Highlands Public Library where she has been CEO for the last two years providing leadership to three branch libraries, a virtual branch and the Grey Highlands Cultural Channel. Her recent achievements at Grey Highlands include the development of the Library’s strategic plan and overseeing the renovation of the Markdale branch which includes the pilot of the community’s first maker space. Prior to her time at GHPL, she was coordinator for community engagement at Collingwood Public Library and subsequently the Innisfil IdeaLab and Library.

“The Board is enthusiastic about the appointment of Jennifer Murley as our new CEO”, said Board Chair Laurey Gillies. “She impressed us with her grasp of current issues, the breadth of her understanding of the role of the public library in the 21st century and her engaging personality. She stood out in a field of some 30 applicants.”

“I am excited to be joining Blue Mountains Public Library”, said Jennifer. “It's a dream come true and an incredible opportunity for learning and growth. I have so much respect for BMPL and look forward to leading the GLAM team.”

Jennifer’s appointment follows the resignation of Dr. Sabrina Saunders who is relocating for health reasons. Dr. Saunders has been with BMPL since 2017 and has been instrumental in the transformation of BMPL into a GLAM (gallery, library, archives, and museum), as well as meeting the policy and practices required for accreditation with the Ontario Public Library Guidelines Accreditation & Monitoring Council.

The Library Board will be hosting a reception to welcome Jennifer Murley on Thursday, December 7th from 1:00-3:00pm in the Gallery at L.E. Shore.
