Organizational Excellence
- Board Participated in Town's Corporate Strategic Plan Focus Group: The Board took part in a focus group led by Director Hendry and Interim CAO Smith to provide input into the Town’s updated Corporate Strategic Plan. Key points included the Board’s recognition of stronger collaboration between the GLAM and the Town, a supportive and engaged Council, and a visibly active community. The Board emphasized the importance of keeping Town and GLAM priorities aligned moving forward. While the upcoming municipal election may bring some uncertainty, the Board remains committed to supporting the growth of cultural programs and community spaces to meet the evolving needs of all residents.
- Strategic Planning Committee Updates: Joanne de Visser was acclaimed as Chair of the newly named Strategic Planning Steering Committee. The Board reviewed and approved the Committee’s updated Terms of Reference. Chair Scott stepped down from the Committee, and Carol Sackville Duyvelshoff was appointed to take her place.
- L.E. Shore Facility Washroom Renovation Announced: The Board continued its discussion on ongoing washroom concerns at the L.E. Shore facility. CEO Murley announced that the Town will be issuing an emergency work order to move forward with necessary renovations. Manager Pesek shared that a full renovation is required to resolve the persistent issues and that accessibility improvements identified in the 2024 L.E. Shore Accessibility Report will also be addressed during the project. The CEO will work closely with staff to minimize service interruptions; however, some programs and events may be temporarily relocated to other Town facilities during the renovation.
Community Hubs
- L.E. Shore Space Utilization Study Moving Forward: The Board reviewed the third draft of the Request for Proposal (RFP) for a space utilization study of the L.E. Shore facility. Direction was given to the CEO to work with the Town’s Purchasing Manager to finalize and publicly release the RFP. The Board also passed a motion to request Council approval to access up to the full amount of the Library’s non-growth-related reserve to fund the project.

- BMPL's 30th Anniversary Celebrations Coming This Fall: CEO Murley shared an update on plans for BMPL’s 30th Anniversary, which will be celebrated this fall. Staff are finalizing the program schedule, with a full announcement of events expected by the end of July. It was also announced that a limited-edition colouring book is in development, created by the Arts and Culture Council (ACC) Chair and L.E. Shore Story Tower artist Beverley Smith.
