Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney
It details the daily life of a middle-schooler in the 2000’s, supplemented by basic, stick drawn, pictures. I read this book and series several times as a kid and it never failed to make me laugh. Even as an adult I still find the series hilarious and relatable. - Josh
Duck and Moose: Duck moves in! by Kirk Reedstrom
Looking for a story that celebrates the unexpected joys of friendship in a side-splittingly humorous way? Look no further than "Duck and Moose: Duck Moves In!" This delightful graphic novel introduces young readers to Moose, a creature who cherishes tranquility and the simple pleasures of a quiet life. However, Moose's world is hilariously disrupted by the arrival of Duck, a social butterfly with an infectious enthusiasm and an undying love for karaoke. The story follows Moose's frustration at his unwanted guest, as Duck's boisterous personality clashes with Moose's desire for peace. Yet, the vibrant illustrations and humorous situations reveal a heartwarming message about the power of compromise and the potential for unlikely friendships to blossom. "Duck and Moose: Duck Moves In!" is a charming choice for young readers, offering a lighthearted introduction to graphic novels while celebrating the value of embracing differences and finding joy in unexpected connections. - Ashley
Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir
Gideon the Ninth takes place in a galactic empire at war where necromancy and death magic are the norm in the royal houses. Gideon, a swordswoman, has been enslaved since childhood in the Ninth House and when the emperor calls the heirs of each of the royal houses to partake in a deadly trial, Gideon is forced by her childhood nemesis and necromancer Harrowhark to participate. Gideon and Harrowhark are two of favourite book characters of all time, Gideon’s one-liners had my laughing out loud, Harrowhark has one of the most compelling backstories, and all the side characters are so interesting. This gothic space adventure is pure confusion and chaos (don’t be surprised if you have no idea what’s happening most of the time!) but the narration style is so unexpectedly hilarious. I recommend listening to the audiobook, it is easily one of the best audiobooks I’ve ever listened to (available on Hoopla!). - Natashia
A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian - Marina Lewycka
Don't be fooled by the cover of "A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian"—this novel is unexpectedly funny. It follows two sisters handling their aging father, Nikolai, who's fixated on Ukrainian tractor history and involved with a much younger girlfriend, Valentina, aiming for permanent residency in Britain. Nikolai's quirky obsessions and situations are hilariously relatable, especially for someone with Eastern European parents like me. - Elisa
