A book review by Ian B.
In this exciting and very engrossing novel, Stanley Yelnats gets sent to a Boys Juvenile Detention Center for a crime, which he may or may not have committed. There he and a bunch of other boys are forced to dig holes on the dried up lake bed all day long for an unknown reason. The head of the camp and the other workers say that digging holes is just a pointless activity that is supposed to build character, but Stanley doubts it and tries to solve the mystery.
He ends up trying to escape on a pickup truck, surviving on only onions and water, hiding under a boat, and having so many more captivating adventures. This book was impossible for me to put down! It is very well written.
The story jumps back in time a hundred years from time to time, telling you all those crazy stories from the past, uncovering the history and the past of Green Lake, which was an actual lake back then, to help you solve the mystery of Camp Green Lake now.
I rate this book an easy 5 stars based on it's engrossing adventures and how well the book is written.
