Organizational Excellence
- Final Report for the 2024 Action Plan Released: The 2024 Action Plan had a completion rate of 89%. The outstanding items were deferred to 2025.
- Respectful Workplaces Compliance Report Received: The Board reviewed the annual Respectful Workplaces Compliance report, which outlined incidents and the actions taken to address them. Notably, in 2024, the Board implemented several new policies to promote appropriate workplace conduct, alongside enhanced training and safety measures to support staff in navigating challenging interactions with colleagues and the public.
- Policy Development & Review: The Library Board passed a new policy focused on staff safety and compensation during severe weather events. Additionally, members completed their annual review of the Board's Agenda & Multi-Year Agendas policy.
- BMPL Representation at the Ontario Library Super Conference: Both staff and members of the Board will be attending the Ontario Library Super Conference at the end of the month, delivering three sessions, including: a panel discussion on the Multi-Use Recreation Feasibility Study (MURFA), delivering empathy-driven tech support, and navigating Memorandums of Understanding.
Community Hubs
- Library Partnerships & Outreach Efforts Highlighted: The CEO presented a staff report showcasing the numerous partnerships and programs that continue to establish BMPL as a vital community hub. The report featured impact quotes and key themes identified through ongoing community consultations.
Empowering Services
- Board Members to attend Craigleith Community Working Group Open House: The Board discussed the opportunity to engage with the Craigleith community at the upcoming open house on January 23 from 4-6 pm at the Shed.
- Ontario Digital Public Library Advocacy: The CEO provided a verbal update on the Ontario Digital Public Library, a key advocacy initiative for the BMPL and the Federation of Ontario Public Libraries. This initiative emphasizes the essential role of libraries in helping the provincial government bridge the digital divide, and aims to ensure equitable access to digital resources for all Ontario residents, regardless of the size or funding level of their local library.
