Organizational Excellence

  • 2025 Action Plan Reviewed: CEO Murley highlighted the successes of the 2025 Action Plan, noting that several multi-year initiatives remain in progress. 
  • 2025 Q4  Report Received: The Board received the CEO’s Q4 report, highlighting strong year-end engagement and key achievements across 2025. Gallery visits nearly doubled, Craigleith Heritage Depot traffic more than doubled, program participation increased, and media and social media reach surged during the Library’s 30th anniversary celebrations. Over the year, BMPL delivered 685 programs to over 13,600 participants, maintained robust circulation and technology use, and improved cardholder retention despite a slight decline in new registrations. High demand for space continued, reflecting findings from the Space Utilization Study. Organizationally, safety outcomes improved, strategic initiatives—including charitable status and business continuity planning—progressed, and the anniversary year reaffirmed BMPL’s role as a vital community hub.
  • Strategic Planning Steering Committee Update Received: The Steering Committee shared completed research and upcoming youth consultation plans, including a youth engagement workshop on February 26 at Georgian Bay Community School.
  • 2025 Respectful Workplaces and Risk Assessment Reports Received: The Board received the CEO’s 2025 Risk Assessment and Respectful Workplace and Health & Safety Compliance Reports. These assessments confirm BMPL remains in a low-risk position, with all policies, procedures, and legislative obligations met, no active legal or employment claims, strong audit results, and staff managing complex social situations with professionalism and a strong focus on safety.
  • Craigleith Working Group Update Received: The Board was briefed on ongoing engagement efforts, including a Town-led consultation on the old Craigleith fire hall. Additional community engagement options are being explored after Council funding was not approved.
  • Annual Board Evaluation Results Received: The Board reviewed the results of its annual self-evaluation. CEO Murley highlighted a 71% completion rate and overall positive feedback. Board members noted a strong understanding of their governance roles, the value of a diverse team with varied perspectives, and a shared commitment to working collaboratively in the best interest of the organization.
  • BMPL Curator Wins Ontario Library Association Archival & Preservation Award: The CEO announced that Curator Alessia Farris received the 2026 Ontario Library Association Archival & Preservation Award for her dedication to preserving TBM’s heritage through initiatives like the Cultural Map, heritage panels, and mentoring new professionals. She will be recognized at the OLA Super Conference Awards Gala.
  • Library/Town Collaboration: Updates were provided on the L.E. Shore washroom renovation (tender issued Jan 7, closing Jan 22, 2026) and ongoing discussions with municipal partners regarding MURFA Phase 2 and potential County library amalgamation.

Community Hubs

  • L.E. Shore Space Utilization Study Final Report Update Received: The final report is in progress and will be presented at the February 19, 2026, Board meeting.

  • BMPL's 30th Anniversary Celebrations Reflection: CEO Murley highlighted the success of BMPL’s 30th Anniversary, which drew nearly 400 attendees.
