The Kids Clubhouse

Are you looking for something fun for the kids to do after school? Look no further! BMPL is proud to announce THE KIDS CLUBHOUSE, a fun and exciting program geared just for kids. The Clubhouse, will take the place of our After School Club in 2020, and will provide children with activities, crafts, puzzles, books, and movies that they can enjoy at home.

Each week we will prepare a creative and engaging activity pack that can be picked up from our Holds Counter. Activity packs will be created for the following age groups:

Gr 1-3

Gr 4-6

Every activity kit will include a weekly craft materials list, and at your own pace, the craft can be completed as we guide you through the craft from a link on the BMPL YouTube channel. 

 Session 1 runs Sept 15th - Dec 15th.

This week activity book theme is Fall Baking. You will have a fun activity book, with coloring sheets, word searches, crosswords, and more! You will have a fun book to read, movie to watch, a puzzle and board game to take home and enjoy. Remember, every Tuesday at 4:30 pm tune in to our Blue Mountains Public Library YouTube page and follow along with Jen for a fun craft. This week craft we will be making our own Chef's hat ( template included with the Activity Book) and Jen will  also be making a super easy APPLE CRUMBLE that requires NO BAKING! ( this is an OPTIONAL activity) If you want to follow along with the recipe, you will need the following from your kitchen:

Apple Crumble No Bake Recipe

1 Apple

2 Tablespoons of brown sugar

1/2 Teaspoon of cinnammon

4 Tablespoon of rolled oats

2 Tablespoons of butter

Pinch of Salt

Instructions

  1. Chop up the apple into small pieces.(Ask a grown up for help)
  2. In a separate bowl combine brown sugar, cinnamon, oats and salt.
  3. Pour the melted butter over the mixture and stir.
  4. Pour oats mixture on top of the chopped up apples and serve.

This week activity book theme is MYTHS and LEGENDS. You will have a fun activity book, with coloring sheets, word searches, crosswords, and more! You will have a fun book to read, movie to watch, a puzzle and board game to take home and enjoy. Remember, every Tuesday at 4:30 pm tune in to our Blue Mountains Public Library YouTube page and follow along with Jen for a  fun craft. This week we will be making a DRAGON using pipe cleaners.

We will provide just about everything you need to make this craft at home. Miss the video? That's ok! You can find the instructions in your weekly Clubhouse Activity Booklet.

Supplies:

  • 4 Pipe cleaners ( In the instructions these represent the green pipe cleaners)
  • 1 Contrasting colour ( This represents the 1 yellow pipe cleaner)
  • 2 Googly eyes
  •  card stock


What you need at home:

  • Tacky glue or
  • Hot glue gun 
  • Scissors

Follow These Steps:

  1. First cut the yellow pipe cleaner (This will be your single coloured pipe cleaner) in half, then fold one of the pieces in half again.
  2. Using a pen as guide, wrap a green pipe cleaner (4 of a kind pipe cleaner) around the yellow one  
  3. Leave a little of the folded end of the yellow pipe cleaner poking out as a nose. 
  4. Wrap all but the last half inch around the folded yellow pipe cleaner.
  5. The yellow pieces can then be shaped as horns.
  6. Insert the end of a second green pipe cleaner into the back of the head, and twist together with the end of the head pipe cleaner.
  7. Using the pen method again wind the pipe cleaner around to make the body.
  8. Cut another green pipe cleaner in half then one piece in half again. 
  9. Use a quarter of the pipe cleaner to make the front legs, and the half piece to make the back legs. 
  10. Simply fold the pieces in half and push through the body coil. Shape the legs as shown in the pictures. 
  11. To make the tail, wrap a small amount of yellow pipe cleaner around the end of the last quarter piece of green pipe cleaner.
  12. Then insert the other end into the back of the body with some white glue on the end to keep it secure.
  13. Then use glue to stick on some googly eyes onto the head.
  14. To make the wings fold the last green pipe cleaner as shown, and cut off the last 2 sections. 
  15. Glue these to a piece of foam sheet.
  16.  When completely dry, cut out your wings and glue them onto the body, pushing the ends between the pipe cleaner coils.

This week we are getting ready for all the fun things that happen in the month of October. Today we will be making a tin can Jack-O-Lantern

Tin Can
Orange and black
construction
paper
Pipe cleaner
Raffia


What you need at home:

Tacky glue or
Hot glue gun


Follow These Steps:

  1. Measure and cut the orange construction paper
  2. Wrap the paper around the can
  3. Use black paper to cut out your spooky face
  4. Give your lantern some crazy hair with the extra construction paper
     

We are getting ready for Fall! This week's theme is SCARECROWS! You will have a fun activity book, with coloring sheets, word searches, crosswords, and more! You will have a fun book to read, movie to watch, a puzzle and board game to take home and enjoy. Remember, every Tuesday at 4:30 pm tune in to our Blue Mountains Public Library YouTube page and follow along with Jen for a fun craft. This week we will be making popsicle stick SCARECROWS!

  • craft sticks
  • felt
  • googly eyes
  • cardstock

 

What you need at home:

  • Tacky glue or
  • Hot glue gun
  • Scissors
  • Markers

Follow These Steps:

  1. Cut out the hat, hair (about 7 small rectangles), and nose from felt using
  2. different colors.
  3. Cut out a square from card stock and glue the sticks onto it to keep them
  4. sturdy & together.
  5. Choose which colour hair and hat you want for your scarecrow.
  6. Glue the hair on first, then the hat.
  7. Glue on the googly eyes & nose and draw a mouth with a black marker.
  8. Glue a ribbon on the back so we could hang them up!
