Seniors Exercise

Location: The Gallery at L.E. Shore.

Sitting or standing, no matter your ability. Improve your fitness and balance and join Denise for a weekly exercise class for seniors! Help keep your body moving with some easy stretches and aerobics. Every Monday and Wednesday at 10am. Pay by donation. Drop-in.

We encourage all participants to keep distance and wear a mask.

Wired Wednesdays: Victor Reader Stream (For people with print disabilities)

Location: The Blue Mountains Public Library Facebook and YouTube Pages.

In this video, Ashley will talk about the Victor Reader Stream, a device that connects to a wireless connection and allows for people with print disabilities to have audiobooks at their fingertips. All you need is an internet connection and a pair of standard headphones to listen. The device also has a built in speaker if preferred. The audibooks come from CELA (The Centre for Equitable Library Access).

In this video, Ashley will talk about clouds. Almost every tech company has a cloud to backup your device to. Which one will work best for you? Each company has an amount of free storage (in gigabytes) that you get for free when you sign up. After that, you have the option to buy. Ashley will talk about a few of the more popular clouds and what they offer.

Train Tracks to Ski Tracks

Location: Zoom.

The Craigleith Station has welcomed travellers since the 1880s. Tourist travellers to the area initially took the waters and the air for their health and enjoyed local spas along the rail line.  However, with the development of the ski industry along the Niagara Escarpment specialized ski trains created opportunities for winter fun for city dwellers. Join Craigleith Heritage Depot Curator Andrea Wilson as she shares the story of the ski train and its impact on the Craigleith Station and the local community. 

 

This event is held in conjunction with the Toronto Railway Museum, Tickets for this event are free, although registration is required at:

Dorothy Crysler Bird Club

Join Curator Andrea Wilson as each month we learn about our wild avian friends, their habits and habitats. This will not only help you identify birds, but you will learn about migration, nesting, environmental needs, species at risk and more. This is a collaborative study group, where participants will share as we grow knowledge together.  

The club is named for Dorothy Crysler, a remarkable local artist, journalist, author and birder! This club takes her cue, as she was "the messenger not the expert". This group is for anyone, new or established as a birder.

In this video, Ashley will talk about where to find the storage area on your device. There is physical storage and cloud storage. Physical storage is built into your device. Each device, whether it be a computer, smartphone, tablet, etc., has physical storage within it. Ashley will show you how to get there and explain what it means.

Do you need some help with your computer, phone, or tablet? Do you wish someone could sit down with you and show you how to use computer software or answer your questions? Now is your chance to register for one-on-one tech help sessions (5 sessions in January) with an instructor from the Georgian Adult Learning Centre.

Meet at L.E. Shore for 45 minutes , everyTuesday afternoons thoughout the month. We can even develop a personalized tech program plan for you!

I Love You in Morse Code: Bracelet Workshop with Spirited Earth Designs

The Blue Mountains Public Library and Spirited Earth Designs are celebrating Love this February with a Morse Code Beaded Bracelet Workshop. Say " I love You" in morse code using quality beads. Keep the bracelet for yourself or give it to someone you love. From the beginning of the 19th century, morse code has been used as a method of sending text messages by keying in a series of electronic pulses, usually represented as a short pulse (called a "dot") and a long pulse (a "dash").

Join us on Tuesday, February 14th from 5-7 pm and learn to say "I Love you" in morse code.

 Registration is required. $30.00 per person. Ages 10 and up.
