Longest Day Of Play

June 21st is the first day of summer and the longest day of the year! Remember to get outside and PLAY!

The L.E. Shore Library  at 3:00 pm will be celebrating Longest Day of Play with tonnes of fun and LOTS of movement. 

Come on down to the library for some dancing,stretching, laughs and play.  Louise Stewart Potts will lead you in energizing movement routines. Louise provides something for every age group, especially FUN. Remember to bring your comfy shoes!

KAIROS Blanket Exercise

Location: The Gallery at L. E. Shore Library.

A hands-on activity in honour of National Indigenous Peoples Day.

The Blanket Exercise is a hands-on way to explore the nation-to-nation relationship with Indigenous peoples, a way to work toward reconciliation and to empower people to build bridges of understanding and respect. Participants will gain an understanding of colonization and the impact it had on Indigenous peoples and the land.
Strong White Buffalo Woman, Elder - Ojibway of the Saugeen and a team of facilitators from Grace United Church will lead the exercise.  Explore the nation-to-nation relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous in Canada, understand how it has been damaged over the years, and learn how together we can work toward reconciliation.

The Craigleith Heritage Depot will be displaying the Pendleton Turtle Blanket from the Wyandot of Oklahoma.

Freedom Voices Song Circle

Come and join us in uncovering the Voices of Freedom through song and story. Craigleith Heritage Depot curator, Andrea Wilson, will share the story of the local abolitionist Major Charles Stuart. Learn Spirtuals, songs of enslaved people from Africa, by participating in a song circle with david sereda.

Jazz at the Library: Lewis and Young - Just Friends

We are not sure that summer is coming before the end of the month, but Mike Lewis and Dave Young are. These two prominent jazz musicians are not only JUST FRIENDS, but musically go back a long time together and will perform the classic jazz standards you want to hear.  Mike on piano, Dave on acoustic bass, Andy Harasymczuk on guitar and Allan Langford on drums will start at 7:30 pm to get your toes tapping.

 This is the wind-up of our Spring 2019 Concert Series, so don’t miss this event. Tickets at $25 are available at Pharmasave in Thornbury and Gabriele Photography in Collingwood.



Canada Day Eve Party

Celebrate Canada Day weekend with us!  The Blue Mountains Public Library is excited to host the 3rd Annual Canada Day Eve Party on Sunday June 30th, 2019 from 4-9pm at the Beaver Valley Community Centre (Rain or Shine) 
Co-hosted by the Town of the Blue Mountains and Thornbury-Clarksburg Rotary, this event features fun for the whole family. 

Festivities to include: live music from Graham Playford,  axe-throwing with AXED Throwing Club, BBQ by Black Angus Fine Meats and Game, taco stand from Culinary Designs.  There will also be fun & interactive children’s activities, Face Painting (using natural and organic paints) by Rocky Shores Health and Wellness, treats from Chapman’s Ice Cream, a lemonade stand, a beer tent sponsored by Creemore Springs.  We will also have Georgian Hills Wine and Ardiel Cider available for purchase.  An addition to 2019 is a Learn Something New, Make Something Old in the Hall (which will also act as a cooling station.)  Presented by the Craigleith Heritage Depot. Cool down with some cool crafts just in time for Canada Day!  Learn Something Old – Make Something New!  Rug hooking, lacemaking, quilling, bookmaking, weaving and more! 

Also, don't miss out on the Charity Baseball Game happening at 6pm across the street at the Baseball Diamonds. 
Town Employees vs Volunteer Firefighters.  Ball game, Raffles, Sparky the Dog...all in the name of fun and fundraising for BVO and Frontline Forward.

Free event for the whole community.   This event will be followed by Fireworks at Tomahawk Golf Course.



A Guided Hike with Robert Burcher

Side Walk Astronomy with the RASC

The RASC will be at the L.E. Shore library Tuesday July 30th from 1-3pm for their second session of Sidewalk Astronomy. This is a drop in program organized by The Royal Astronmical Society (RASC) The idea of this program is to catch people when they are not expecting to get a look through a telescope, and then explain to them what they are seeing.

Spinal Health and Posture Correction

Join instructor, Joanne Pineau, HBSc., C-IAYT  Certified Yoga Therapist, a highly skilled and experienced Yoga Therapist based in Thornbury for this free workshop. 

Learn how to sit, bend and lift pain-free. Learn effective exercises to improve muscle tone and release tension and pain in the neck, shoulders and low back. This is an experiential workshop so dress in comfortable clothing. We will do the exercises sitting in chairs and standing.
