Are you between 15 and 24 years old? Are you passionate about taking action on climate change and helping the environment? If so, you might be eligible to receive a grant of up to $6,000 to support climate initiatives in our region.
The Town of The Blue Mountains is one of 100 communities worldwide to receive funding and technical assistance to support youth-driven climate action through the Youth Climate Action Fund. The Town has received $50,000 USD to distribute as microgrants worth between $1,500 and $6,000 CAD to fund youth-led climate initiatives.
These projects can be implemented in any community within the traditional Territory of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation, which includes The Blue Mountains, Grey County, Southern Georgian Bay communities, Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation, Chippewas of Saugeen First Nation, Bruce County, and other communities within this area. Projects are encouraged to build youth engagement and collaboration across communities, building capacity, and relationships to help address climate change with youth leadership. Efforts from the new Youth Climate Action Fund will support activities such as tree planting, public education campaigns, waste reduction initiatives, and participation in climate change mitigation planning or preparedness programs. The aim is to advance critical community goals, such as meeting decarbonization commitments or reducing consumption-based emissions.
All projects must align with and support The Blue Mountains and Grey County’s climate change goals and actions. Visit the TBM Future Story and Going Green In Grey for more information on these plans.
