Ontario Early Years

Tuesday May 28, 2019 - Tuesday June 25, 2019

Time: 10:00am - 11:30am

Location: L.E. Shore Library Story Tower.

Ontario Early Years Centre will be providing a drop-in Early Learning Play Group at L.E. Shore on the third Wednesday of every month.  From 10am-11:30am, children, up to 6 years of age, and their families can participate in a wide variety of activities such as songs, crafts, story time, active play, math, science, and literacy experiences. This program encourages parent-child interactive play and social interaction between children. Ontario Early Years Centre staff are on site to provide support, links and resources.

Guided Hike & Pressed Flower Art

Saturday June 15, 2019

Time: 11:00am - 3:00pm

Location: L.E. Shore Library.

Saturday June 15th meet us at the Library for a guided hike along the Beaver River and Pressed Flower workshop with 
Robert Burcher.

The hike will start from the L.E. Shore Library at 11:00 am. While hiking gather some wild flowers, pinecones, rocks and sticks to bring back with you to the library. You will be using what you gather from the hike to create your very own piece of art. Robert will demonstrate a simple and quick way to Press flowers, so you can use them in your art work .

This is an exciting event where we get to learn a bit about our community's history while appreciating the beauty and
serenity of nature.

Feel Free to bring some snacks, water or a lunch with you!
Pressed Flower Art will be held in The Gallery following the hike.

VR Headset Drop In

Explore new worlds, play some fun games or go for a roller coaster ride!  You can also check out The Craigleith Heritage Depot's new Virtual Reality films! Dive the Mary Ward shipwreck or walk the edge of the Niagara Escarpment. Try all these and more with our Occulus Go Virtual Reality headsets available at the library.

Longest Day Of Play

June 21st is the first day of summer and the longest day of the year! Remember to get outside and PLAY!

The L.E. Shore Library  at 3:00 pm will be celebrating Longest Day of Play with tonnes of fun and LOTS of movement. 

Come on down to the library for some dancing,stretching, laughs and play.  Louise Stewart Potts will lead you in energizing movement routines. Louise provides something for every age group, especially FUN. Remember to bring your comfy shoes!

KAIROS Blanket Exercise

Time: 6:00pm - 8:00pm

Location: The Gallery at L. E. Shore Library.

A hands-on activity in honour of National Indigenous Peoples Day.
Participants will gain an understanding of colonization and the impact it had on Indigenous peoples and the land.
Strong White Buffalo Woman, Elder - Ojibway of the Saugeen and a team of facilitators from Grace United Church will lead the exercise.  Explore the nation-to-nation relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous in Canada, understand how it has been damaged over the years, and learn how together we can work toward reconciliation.

All ages can participate, children accompanied by an adult.

Facilitators will provide blankets, and the Craigleith Heritage Depot will be providing the Pendleton Turtle Blanket donated by Charles Garrad.

Canada Day Eve Party

Save the Date for the 3rd Annual Canada Day Eve Party

Kick off Canada Day weekend with us!  The Blue Mountains Public Library is excited to host the 3nd Annual Canada Day Eve Party on Sunday June 30th, 2019 from 4-9:00pm at the Beaver Valley Community Centre (outside in the sunshine.)  Co-hosted by the Town of the Blue Mountains and Thornbury-Clarksburg Rotary, this event features fun for the whole family. 

Festivities to include: live music from Graham Playford,  axe-throwing with AXED Throwing Club, BBQ by Black Angus Fine Meats and Game, taco stand from Culinary Designs.  There will also be fun & interactive children’s activities, Face Painting (using natural and organic paints) by Rocky Shores Health and Wellness, treats from Chapman’s Ice Cream, a lemonade stand, a beer tent sponsored by Creemore Springs.  We will also have Georgian Hills Wine and Ardiel Cider available for purchase.  An addition to 2019 is a Learn Something New, Make Something Old in the Hall (which will also act as a cooling station.)  Presented by the Craigleith Heritage Depot. Cool down with some cool crafts just in time for Canada Day!  Learn Something Old – Make Something New!  Rug hooking, lacemaking, quilling, bookmaking, weaving and more! 

Free event for the whole community.   This event will be followed by Fireworks at Tomahawk Golf Course.
