Inter-Library Loans

The Library will attempt to locate books which patrons request and which are not in the Library's own collection through the provincial library or INFO database. Interlibrary loan material is free to patrons unless the loaning library charges the Leonard E. Shore Library for the loan of such material, in which case the cost will be passed on to the patron.

Three ways to request materials through an Inter-Library Loan:

  1. You may come to the LE Shore Memorial Library and ask at the circulation desk.
  2. You may download the Inter-Library Request Form and bring to the library.
  3. YOu may use our on-line patron-generated interlibrary loan service -click here.

Accessibility:

For our patrons with visual impairments we offer a large selection of audio and large print books

The library has two wheel chair accessible entrances with automatic doors as well as accessible washrooms. Our library is on one level making it easier to navigate.

With the assistance of a grant provided by the Trillium Foundation our library now has an accessible computer workstation for patrons with various disabilities.

JAWS for Windows - reads onscreen text aloud
Kurzweil 1000 - converts scanned text into speech and reads it aloud
ZoomText - computer screen magnification software
Dragon Naturally Speaking 10 – is a voice-activated dictation software that can be used to compose letters, operate software or use the Internet.
Large Print Keyboard
BIG track 3”inch trackball with oversized buttons minimizes strain on hand or fingers.
Point Smart software that slows down the speed of the cursor for users with poor motor skills.

Reserving books

Patrons may request an item which is currently on loan. When the item is returned the patron is notified by phone. The Library will attempt to call the patron for three consecutive days. If no one can be reached by closing time on the third day, the book will either be put back on the shelf or given to the next person on the waiting list. When a message has been left for the patron, the book will be held behind the circulation desk for one week. If no one comes to claim the book after one week, the book returns to general circulation or goes to the next person on the reserve list. The Library will not make long distance phone calls to inform patrons about books on the reserve list.
