Title: Beaver Valley Bruce Trail Club fonds
Dates of Creation: 1963-
Scope and Content: A collection of miscellaneous records from the
Beaver Valley Chapter of the Bruce Trail Association. The Bruce Trail runs from Queenston to Tobermory along the
Niagara Escarpment, a distance of about 782 km. The idea for the trail was first proposed in 1960 by Raymond
Lowes to the Federation of Ontario Naturalists and a Bruce Trail Committee was
formed. The trail was completed in
1967. The Bruce Trail is the oldest and
longest hiking trail in Canada, much of it running through privately owned land
and is maintained by groups of local volunteers. The Beaver Valley Bruce Trail
Club maintains the stretch of trail from Craigleith to Blantyre, a distance of
about 86 km. This collection is mainly
minutes of meetings, correspondence and newspaper clippings have to do with the
activities of the Beaver Valley Bruce Trail Club.
