Library Lines for February 22, 2012

There are still seats left on the bus for Canada Blooms.  The library will be sponsoring a trip to Canada Blooms on Wednesday March 21.  Tickets are now on sale for $50.  The ticket covers return bus fare to Toronto, and admission to the Toronto Flower and Garden Festival and the National Home Show.  The bus departs from the Beaver Valley Community Centre at 8 a.m. sharp and returns at about 6:30 p.m.  Tickets can be purchased at the library and are non-refundable.

Baby Story Time starts on Friday February 24 from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  This program is for babies 0-18 months with their care givers.  Featuring stories, songs, bouncing, clapping, and of course, lots of laughter and baby giggles.   This session runs until March 16.

February is already half over, which means it is time to start thinking about March Break!  The Library has many exciting programs planned for the week of March 12 – 17, including Pottery Mask Making, Fear Factor, Island Bingo, a Wii Tournament, Story Times and the annual Steel Chef competition.  Please check our website www.thebluemountainslibrary.com for more information, and remember to call or drop by the library to register ahead for all programs.

For young people aged 13 to 19 years, please note that the deadline for submissions to the Third Annual Blue Mountains Youth Film Festival is February 18.  Application forms and guidelines can be picked up at the library or downloaded from our web site: www.thebluemountainslibrary.ca.

For the children in your life, the library has TumbleBooks which are animated, talking picture e-books which teach kids the joy of reading in a format they'll love. They are created by adding animation, sound, music and narration to existing picture books in order to produce an electronic picture book which you can read, or have read to you. A collection of puzzles and games accompany each book and reinforce concepts from the books, allowing for a fun and educational learning experience. Access them at a Library computer or from home at http://www.thebluemountainslibrary.ca/Youth.htm

The Arts Advisory Council has two great travel lectures lined up this February.

First, on Thursday February 23 at 7 p.m. join Wendy and Al Chesworth, for “Adventures on the India Subcontinent” get a glimpse of their trip to this multidimensional continent; home to more than a billion people and an eclectic mix of different cultures.

Next on Sunday February 26 at 1p.m. the Eaton Family will be at the library to discuss their travels in Laos and Luang Prabang and their experience with ‘Big Brother Mouse,’ a program that brings books to children in remote villages in the region.

Also, the library will be featuring a Healthy Breast Workshop with Leslea Clark on Tuesday March 20 at 7p.m.   Check out more upcoming Adult Programs by dropping by, calling, or our website.
