Conditions for the Exhibition of Work
- The Library Board has appointed an Arts Advisory Council to provide guidance to art programming in the library, and which will screen candidates for exhibition.
- The customary length of an installation is one (1) month, but may be extended at the discretion of the Arts Advisory Council.
- There will be a charge of $50.00 for this service (to help cover insurance), and in addition the library reserves the right to claim a 20% commission pretax on any work of art that is sold while on exhibit at the library.
-
The Library will transact all sales of work during an exhibition. We ask that any taxes be included in the sale price.
- Library programming & community activities will not be interrupted by an exhibition.
Items on display must be on or close to the walls of the Gallery so as not to inhibit use of the space, although they may be rearranged for the Opening Reception. No other programming will be scheduled during the installation and removal of an exhibit.
- The artist is responsible for planning & cleaning up opening receptions, and for supplying food & beverages. He or she is also responsible for obtaining, in advance, a Special Occasion Permit from the LCBO, should alcohol be served. The Permit must be posted at the opening. We suggest that a non-alcoholic beverage be available as well.
- The Library will promote the exhibit through regular notices in local publications, and on posters or flyers. Any additional promotion is the responsibility of the artist.
- The presentation of the art in the Gallery is solely the responsibility of the A.A.C. in consultation with the artist(s). No third party is to benefit from our publicly funded gallery.
- The artist is responsible for transportation of the works to & from the library. Each piece must have proper hanging devices. On or before the hanging, the artist must provide the CEO with a list of items and their value for insurance purposes. Artists wishing to rent showcases must fill in the space on the contract to ensure availability.
- The artist is expected to be at the Gallery at 9:00 a.m. on the date of hanging. The artist is responsible for the unpacking of works on installation day.
- The artist shall recognize that there is no formal security system in the building that the gallery may be used for unsupervised community meetings after hours concurrent with the exhibition. The Library’s insurance policy will cover the art against theft or damage once the inventory list has been received and the art is on display. It will not cover damage during transportation to and from the library or during the hanging and dismantling of the exhibition.
- The Library reserves the right to refuse any exhibition or individual piece.
